  3. Alternately the patient can be asked to look up and while holding the lids, the fluorescein strip is placed against the lower conjunctiva.  Place the strip 
  4. sufficiently far from the limbus 
  5. as the strip will cause staining 
  6. of the conjunctiva (or cornea 
  7. if you accidentally touch the 
  8. cornea).  You do not want to 
  9. cover any conjunctival staining 
  10. with staining from the 
  11. fluorescein instillation.
